I directed the design and original animation that played along with the 25th Anniversary Nightmare Before Christmas Live with live orchestration and performance. As the film played on large screens throughout the Hollywood Bowl and the orchestra played the score we extended the scene or created original looks that fit the unique shape of the Hollywood Bowl. For each show number live performers took over and we created original animated show numbers. Along with the full film we created a encore by Danny Elfman and members of Oingo Boingo to perform Dead Man’s Party . The evening was framed in a original Tim Burton inspired arch that shaped the nights festivities.
“The crowd went wild for the cast as they stepped out on stage to perform their numbers live, individually or as an ensemble, elevating the festive and celebratory vibe. While that created a unique experience worth the ticket price alone, it was the beating heart inside an immersive experience of live scenery projections which took the 2018 show to a whole new level. By projection mapping an extension of the film onto the facade of the Bowl, it enveloped the stage and the performers, and even the film itself, in a form that embraced and transported the audience further into the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a mechanic that enabled the show to transcend any previous form and become something that left the audience in rapture and awe…Created by the award-winning creative studio Mousetrappe, the breathtaking living scenery wasn’t just a screening with performances but made the event a constantly evolving extension of the film and the music. “_FORES
